Burgess goes belly up

Burgess Marine, a UK-based marine engineering service provider, has entered into administration resulting the in loss of jobs across its sites across the UK.

Burgess Marine operated in both the commercial and defence marine sectors. It offered ship repair, refit and conversion services as well as marine engineering.

The company's Devonport, Porchester, Portsmouth and Southampton sites have ceased trading and closed, subsequently over 100 staff have been made redundant.

Three of the company's sites, Lowestoft, Avonmouth and Poole, have been sold to Southampton Marine services. The sale includes the transfer of assets and 45 members of staff.

From its bases in Lowestoft, Dover, and Portsmouth, Burgess Marine supported infrastructure and vessel operators working on Scroby Sands, Greater Gabbard, Kentish Flats, London Array, Thanet and Rampion. It also supported operators at Sizewell, Dungeness and Hinkley Point nuclear power stations.
